Spit Wine and Spirit School creates a relaxed, straight
talking environment where you can learn about wine
and spirits in the comfort of the private
dining rooms at the Plough Harborne.


We offer level one and two WSET courses along with
tasting events, whisky nights and other short courses. 

Who is the WSET?

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) was founded in 1969
to provide high quality education and training in wines and spirits.
Since then, the WSET has grown into the foremost international
body in the field of wines and spirits education, with a suite
of sought-after qualifications.


This course is a good starting point for the exploration of wine styles.
No prior knowledge is required as the course is designed to introduce
wines in an interactive, structured and concise manner.
This course will suit a novice wine enthusiast or those wishing to start
their career in the wine or hospitality business.


The course covers the major grape varieties, regions of the world,
food and wine pairing, sparkling wines, fortified wines and the
major spirits. You will not need any formal qualification, just
an enthusiasm for the subject and willingness to learn.
This course is ideal for anyone wishing to be introduced to wine
or spirits in an informative and structured manner. It is suitable
for both the enthusiast and those looking to enter or already
working in the wine and hospitality business requiring a good
level of product knowledge.

Back once again with The Gintleman Master

The Gintleman is back to introduce 4 new Gins and boutique tonics complemented with 3 Ginspired canapés cocktails. Expect lots of fun gin facts whilst creating 4 bespoke G&Ts whilst rating your gins like a speed date! By the end of the evening you’ll have a greater confidence of the category – as well as a smile on your face!

New Zealand Wine Master Class

Learn about the story of twelve dedicated New Zealand wine producers, tightly bound by a common love for the craft of fine wine growing. There are just twelve in this unique family of families, and that’s all there’ll ever be.
We’re “The Family of Twelve”, New Zealand’s Wine Family.

Real wine month is an exciting and innovative promotion of organic, biodynamic and natural wines made by artisan growers and winemakers that runs throughout May. To help celebrate, Spit wine school is welcoming Sam Olive from Wine Freedom to present and take us on a journey of some of his favourite ‘Real Wines’.

Introduction to North American Wines

Over recent years North American wine have become so much more than just Napa Valley Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. With most states in America now producing wine and a huge rise in quality from Canadian provinces such as British Columbia and Ontario. We’ll be tasting Pinot Noir from Oregon, Riesling from Niagara and of course there will be a drop of canadian Ice wine on show too.
